Holiday In May at Gold Coast Water Parks
by Mita Jatia
(India)
Is weather warm enough to enjoy a holiday in May at Gold Coast water parks?
We are a couple with 9 year old boy wanting to visit GoldCoast around the 20th May.
What kind of weather can we expect in the day and at night? Our son is very fond of water activities and would like to visit Wet and Wild Water World and Sea World theme parks.
It would be great if you could let me know if he would be able to enjoy Wet and Wild theme park in May and also if Sea World would be fully functional around that time.
May is the last month of Autumn in south east Queensland. The weather is often very mild with average day time temperatures up to 22°C or 72°F but can often go much higher to mid to high 20°s Celcius (or Centigrade) or from around 77°F to 85° Fahrenheit.
At night it does get cooler with an average overnight temperature around 13°C (55°F) once again it can get cooler than that or be warmer.
During May I would recommend that you are prepared for both warm sunny weather and cooler night time weather or if it is cloudy or windy. If you plan to go in the Gold Coast hinterland areas it can been cooler and warm clothes are recommended for that.
As for the water theme parks (Wet n Wild & WhiteWater World), they have been designed to be year round. I am not sure if they are heating the water in the parks during May as usually it is not needed.
It is funny how children often do not feel the cold when they are having fun! If your son does feel the cold, make sure that you have extra towels to dry him off between water rides and have dry clothes to change into afterwards. You can always get hot drinks and food to warm up if needed in the park too!
When my youngest daughter was 4 and got very cold quickly, we would still go to the water parks especially Wet n Wild and she loved it.
Another thing to consider is getting a pass for multiple entry to the theme parks as that way you don't have to go for the whole day, just pick the warmest part of the day if he is feeling the cold at all and then you can go back another day to do more of the rides and have more fun! Sea World and Wet n Wild are part of the same group so there are special passes for entry to both that will save you money.
Sea World is a year round Gold Coast theme park too. They do close some rides and attractions for maintenance but that changes on a daily basis so I cannot say what will or will not be open now. It is something you need to check on the day. Your son will LOVE Sea World, it is just brilliant. Make sure you get to see the Dolphin Show and the Seal Show!
I hope that answered your question. Let me know if you have any more questions and enjoy your trip to the Gold Coast in May.
