Miami on the Gold Coast is NOT the Florida USA version!

It is the one with the sparkling stretch of Gold Coast beachfront. South from Mermaid Beach, through Nobby Beach and on to North Burleigh.

Magic Mountain at Nobby Beach was an entertainment park in days gone by.

A chairlift carried patrons up to the park at top.

Definitely Gold Coast icons! But sadly they are no more!

Today Magic Mountain Resort Apartments have taken their place but the memories linger on!

Best of all, many new shops and cafés are being added so that Miami is becoming more self sufficient for holiday makers.

Miami is a great place for families who want to base themselves on the beach.  

Accommodation here is often more affordable than that in the suburbs further north.

It is closer to Coolangatta and attractions such as Currumbin WildLife Sanctuary, as well as Tweed Heads, Northern NSW and Byron Bay.

Definitely a popular choice for repeat holiday makers in the know, you are more likely to find slightly older style accommodation in the budget price range here. Although there are definitely some newer options with great positions.

Usually less expensive to stay in this area than accomodation in Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach. It depends what you are looking for.

You could use public transport if staying in this area, but hiring a car or brining your own, will be a lot more convenient. Here are some guidelines for travel times to Gold Coast theme parks and other Gold Coast attractions.

• Miami Beach – patrolled beach
• Nobby Beach - patrolled beach areas North and South Nobby
• Miami Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) - great for a good affordable meal.

Miami and Nobby Beach Accommodation

Mermaid Beach & Nobby Beach seems to have the better accommodation - higher star ratings and better facilities.  

In Miami the standards vary widely and as mentioned above it is an area that is definitely being redeveloped so I am sure new or refurbished properties will be coming along - I'll keep you posted!

I won't go into details about the 3* and 3½* properties or below, as this is the where the other websites just give you lists - and I don't know how you are supposed to choose from those!  So here are some of the 4* properties.

Mermaid Beach & Nobby Beach Apartments

Sandrift Beachfront Apartments

Sandrift Beachfront Apartments - On the beach?  Well pretty close - just across a fairly quiet street and yes you are on the beach!  Awesome views....

2 bedroom apartments all with ocean views. The pool and heated spa are well positioned at front of the grounds at the northern end to maximise sunshine hours! 

Not the most exciting apartments to look at from the outside but excellent position and good accommodation for families.

Magic Mountain Resort

Magic Mountain Resort - great self-catering family resort apartments either 2 or 3 bedrooms.  The penthouse has 3 bedrooms all with ensuite and a private rooftop entertaining area with heated spa and panoramic views of the Gold Coast, Ocean and Hinterland.

Resort itself has a gym, sauna and 3 different types of pools including a heated one.

Santorini Holiday Apartments

Santorini Holiday Apartments - situated on the right side of the Gold Coast Highway at Nobby Beach - these may be a little noisy from the traffic, but these 4* apartments are big! 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms.  If a dishwasher is a must, you need to go for the 2 or 3 bedroom apartments.

Grande Florida Resort

Grande Florida Resort - this is a well priced family holiday destination resort that used to be part of the Accor Group and was known as the All Seasons Grande Florida Resort.  It has a 3½ star AAA rating.

The apartments are built around the central resort pools which are the main feature of the resort.  One is heated, there is a sandy beach area and a kids wading pool.  

Quite well positioned one street back from the Gold Coast Highway and one street away from the Miami beach.  It is conveniently located and has a restaurant delivery service as there is no proper restaurant on-site.

Golf Information

The Gold Coast Burleigh Golf Club is in Miami and there are many other courses within a 20 to 25 minute drive.

 If you are after the luxury golf courses then you may need to drive a bit more - but they are usually worth it.

Beach Information

Miami has a stunning beach, possibly more interesting as it ends at Burleigh which is the first headland on the main Gold Coast beach strip. 

A clean beach with great soft sand.   

Make sure you are aware of the beach and surf conditions and only swim between the flags. The beach is patrolled year round at Miami and Nobby Beach from 8.00am to 5.00pm so you will should find a flagged area every day unless the beach is closed.

Santa Monica is located between these two beaches and is patrolled on weekends from September to April.

Travel Times

Approximate travel times by motor vehicle - please note travel times can be affected by many factors including traffic hazards and roadworks. These are just an indication.

Directions for Car Travel

For directions and other information I recommend you use Google Maps Australia. On this website there are several google maps including a map of Surfers which you can click on to get directions which will also give you an idea of travel times for driving.
