Planning Trip to Gold Coast In April
I am planning a romantic holiday to Gold Coast with my wife in April. I have 4 days during first week of April.
I want to know what are best places to visit in and around Gold Coast which can be covered in 4 days.
Where to stay in GoldCoast? My preference is a beach facing hotel or apartment.
Also following are my interests:
Scuba Diving
Sea plane ride
Also want to know if car can easily be hired there (Hertz\Avis)
Okay, first off your holiday co-incides with Queensland school holidays, so you will need to get on to booking your accommodation pretty quickly as all the good ones tend to book out early at for these holidays.
Also, since you mention this is a romantic holiday with your wife, you may want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise. Nearby options that may be more to your liking include the quieter Main Beach or Broadbeach.
Main Beach is quieter and has some beachfront and near beachfront apartments. It also has the very sedate and enjoyable Tedder Avenue for romantic dinners! Main Beach has a couple of very nice hotels - Sheraton Mirage and Palazzo Versace plus the boutique shopping centre Marina Mirage which also has some great restaurants. Marina Mirage is also the departure point for some awesome activities including cruises in the Broadwater or to South Stradbroke Island for the day.
Broadbeach has some absolute beachfront apartments and has some of the best restaurants in the Gold Coast, if you enjoy eating out. Broadbeach also has Jupiters Casino and Pacific Fair for shopping (if your wife likes that!).
Have a look at the different areas and then contac me (see below)for my suggestions as to the next steps for choosing your accommodation.
Okay, now for things to do... Scuba diving and snorkelling can be done in two main spots on the Gold Coast.
Down at Coolangatta and Tweed Heads there are some fantastic spots to dive around Point Danger, Nine Mile Reef and Cook Island.
The other interesting dive area in the Gold Coast is at Wavebreak Island which is in the Gold Coast Broadwater near the Gold Coast seaway and in the northern end of the Gold Coast. Again there are various options for diving and snorkelling in this area.
Another option to consider is taking a day trip to the incredible Tangalooma, where you can snorkel around the Tangalooma Wrecks, enjoy the white sands of Moreton Island and maybe stay for the wild dolphin feeding in the evening.
If you need any convincing check out my Tangalooma photos of my day trip there during the winter months!
There are plenty of options for getting to the air in the Gold Coast, from hot air ballooning, sea plane rides and helicopter tours. Check out some of these options and other activities you can do around the Gold Coast.
I think you will easily find some great things to do, but I would also like to suggest that maybe you take your wife on a trip into the hinterland, up to Mount Tamborine to the rainforest areas, there are some lovely walks there and great places for lunch in Eagle Heights. Since you are planning to hire a car, you can drive yourself to these quite easily.
For evening entertainment, there is Draculas (if you like that kind of thing) dinner and show or the more family oriented Australian Outback Spectacular dinner and show which is quite an experience and very memorable.
Gold Coast has the main big car companies for hiring cars. You can get one at the airport, but as I mentioned because it is school holidays I recommend you book. If you want a great option for hire cars, in my opinion the cars are as good as the big companies, but much more affordable, try this car hire comparison tool. I use this all the time for my car hires and I have found it to be really great - there are even some deals you cannot get directly from the big companies, but you hire their cars! I did that in UK and saved a huge amount of money!
If you don't know the area well, it is probably worth hiring a GPS with the car too, that way you won't get lost! And another hint, always check that your accommodation includes free parking, as some of the hotels and apartments will charge you per night for parking!
Hope that was useful, have a look at the links to the different areas for accommodation and if you have any specific questions or need any more help to narrow down your search for accommodation, please contact me personally, through my contact form and I will give you some more specific suggestions.
Hope that was helpful, please leave any general questions or comments below. If you found this helpful, you can Like it, Tweet it and share on Facebook ;-) Thanks for spreading the word...
Cheers
