ANZAC Day Restaurants
Are restaurants open on ANZAC day?
In general restuarants, shops and attractions are closed on ANZAC Day (25 April) each year as a mark of respect to the veterans and their families.
However, some restaurants will be open, some for breakfast (especially in the main tourist areas such as Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Coolangatta and Broadbeach) but will not serve alcohol until at least midday and others will open from 1pm.
It is best to check with the restaurant you want to go to individually.
Many attractions will remain closed all day, and some will open from 1pm with restricted trading hours.
It seems things change! In the past, MovieWorld, SeaWorld and Wet n Wild have been open for at least part of the day, but since 2010 they have been closed for the whole of ANZAC day. Dreamworld and WhiteWater World have followed suit and are now usually closed on ANZAC Day, but this may change from year to year, so it is best to check.
Most shops will be closed and the major shopping centres will be closed on the actual ANZAC day which is 25 April.
In years when ANZAC day falls on the weekend and there is an ANZAC Day holiday that is not on 25 April, you usually find public holiday or Sunday trading hours are the norm for most shops and restaurants.
